Site Council Meeting
September 18th 2007

The meeting was brought to order at 4:30pm by Christine; everyone stated what they like to do on a rainy day.
Old business left over from last school year:
- The following was approved by email vote back in May – Re-allocate the compensatory money previously allotted for the STAR ESP for a READ 180 ESP.
- The NWEA reports were delivered to the district office on June 5th to be bulk mailed.
Pat Mohr was re-elected as recorder and Christine Weatherman was re-elected as facilitator.
Angie is the new Department Chair representative. She reported the following from the August 30th Department Chair meeting:
Enrollment was 1102 but we are projected at 1072.
NWEA testing for new students will be on computers this year.
We will begin testing the third week of school.
Explore testing for 8th grade will be in November.
Pre AP trained staff would like to pursue a $6 million grant from the State of Minnesota to implement Pre AP.
Rob requested that the department chairs come to consensus regarding the grading scale as an A has to represent the same percentage in all departments within the school.
Also the following from the September 12th Department Chair meeting:
7th graders will see a Climb Theater program on October 5th during second hour.
Information on Bullying is going out to new staff. 2007-2008
Enrollment is now at 1136. We may go down by about 20 students after the 15 day drop, which is September 24th.
A possible date of March 17th 2008 was suggested for a simulated writing test.
Silent Sustained Reading was implemented on Wednesday 12th September. During the first 30 minutes of the school day everyone in the building reads, therefore the rest of the day’s schedule is adjusted accordingly with each period shortened by about 5 minutes. Esme and Kay agreed to review the donated reading material for SSR.
Parent volunteers are needed for DPAC and the Human sexuality committee.
The building PLC’s will begin in October and will coincide with SSR on Wednesday mornings.
Rob stated that student enrollment in nearing capacity. New students are arriving daily. Current numbers are 7th - 418, 8th - 342 and 9th - 376.
We did not make our AYP target. We will discuss this in more detail at the next meeting.
The site improvement plan is still being prepared.
Testing has started and is going smoothly. NWEA testing has been replaced by MAP and the results are instantaneous.
Rob showed a PowerPoint presentation explaining the upcoming levy referendum.
Christine will write an article about the Site Council for the next BJ Newsletter. The new grading system will also appear in the next newsletter.
The next meeting will be Tuesday October 9th 2007 at 4:30pm in the office conference room.
