Course Expectations

Dear Parents/Guardians/Students including ____________________________ (name),

In seventh grade social studies, students will be learning about the five themes of geography, world regions and some world history.  There will be various learning opportunities including some writing assignments as well as a few major projects.

The World Geography:  Building a Global Perspective textbook will be assigned and sent home for map homework use.  The cost for a lost or damaged geography textbook is $5.00.

During each trimester, ONE “oops” or late coupon may be used within a week on one assignment (except projects). Students can earn up to 90% of the possible points.  For major projects and some assignments that are missing, students may be assigned extra time to work with me before or after school to earn up to 50% of the grade.   Extra Time Detention and Homework Help sessions will be posted weekly on the side chalkboard.

Progress reports will be distributed periodically and will need to be signed by the parent(s) or guardian(s) and returned.  Grades will be posted in the classroom by the student identification number.

Listed on the syllabus and below are specific classroom expectations and procedures which students are expected to follow.  Please read through the information with your child, and have your child return the Expectations Contract (the next page) by _______9/5______________.

Expectations for each student:

-When the bell rings, I will be in my seat and ready for class because I've read the agenda on the screen and written important information in my BJ planner.  I will stay in my desk until dismissed by the teacher.

-If I'm tardy, I receive a warning for the 1st tardy, teacher detention (2:50 – 4:20 p.m.) for the 2nd, 3rd & 4th tardy, with an office referral and detention for the 5th tardy.

-I will follow the teacher’s instructions for doing my work.  If there is any suspicion of cheating, the score will be zero points.

-If I finish a task early, I will work on other assignments for social studies, homework from other classes, or find a quiet and appropriate activity like reading or drawing.

-During the trimester, I have THREE emergency passes by using the BJH planner.

-When I have been absent, I will consult the Student Notebook and handout folders at the student table before asking the teacher. I will complete the assignments promptly (usually 1-2 days)!

-I will not bring food, such as candy, & beverages to class!  I may chew gum discreetly

in the classroom; however this privilege  may be taken away.

Also, please consult the Student Handbook for additional school rules and other important information.  If you have questions or information that would assist me in working with your child, please email me or call the school.  I look forward to working with you and your child this school year!

Sincerely,

Kari Krogstad
