                     Site Council Meeting Minutes

                                                            November 13th 2007

Present:

Esme Apostolou, Cheryl Billodeau, Michelle Burke, Laurie Dvorak, Wendy Ehlert, Kay Kurst, Rob Mendolia, Pat Mohr, Kim Monette, Arun Sharma, Dana Trouth, Christine Weatherman

The meeting was brought to order at 4:30pm by Christine.

As Angie was not present, Christine gave the report from the last Department Chair meeting.

  1. October 1st count was 52% free and reduced lunch; this should increase our compensatory funding next year.
  2. The media staff is putting together a plan to show the students a video on internet safety.
  3. We have been allocated money for another .5 FTE. This will be used in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters to add additional sections for the 7th grade core classes,
  4. 8th grade students have been taking the Explore test during their science classes. This test will inventory their skills and evaluate suitable careers.
  5. Students are being reminded that cell phones, cameras and video cameras are not to be used in school. This is to prevent unauthorized student images being posted to the internet. The staff has been instructed to pass along to the administrators any of these items found on students. Parents will then be called to collect these items.

Current enrollment numbers are 7th - 411, 8th - 331 and 9th – 365 for a total of 1107.

Silent Sustained Reading continues to go well. The PLC component will run for 24 weeks.

Results from the levy were disappointing. Even though question one passed, there will still need to be budget cuts next year. It will be vital for question two to pass to continue quality programs in the district, so it may go to the voters again in the spring.

The Pre AP grant has been approved by the state. The grant provides for a .4 FTE AP coordinator. Our students will be able to complete their AP studies at OSH, PSCH & MGSH. A special thank you to all the staff who worked together to write the grant proposal that made this happen.

We have successfully implemented a math resource class one hour a day for 8th grade students struggling in math; this class is in addition to their regular math class and replaces an elective for these students. HAP is a pilot program we have implemented to reflect our diverse population and create more equity in our high performance classes. Selected students of color who had previously tested for admission to 7th grade HP English have been selected to receive extra help from English teacher Ms. Pribyl and Mr. Sterling, the Student Learning Advocate. This class is in addition to their HP English class and replaces an elective for these students.

The site council approved the allocation of a pilot compensatory grant for a .5 FTE instructional coach to work with new teachers. The grant includes 2 LCD projectors for the READ180 program and a laptop for the coordinator.

The site council reviewed the Site Improvement Plan Conclusion booklet. The booklet included the 2006-07 Site Progress Report, 2007-08 Site Continuous Improvement Plan and 2007-08 Staff Development Plan.

The review of the Site Council budget and the Matrix review were tabled until the next meeting.

The meeting was adjourned at 6:00pm. The next meeting will be Tuesday December 11th 2007.

Respectfully submitted

Pat Mohr
