Tools you can use

Overview of building technology you may not know about or may have forgotten about! 

Get inspired to try something new!

The Mystery in the Box (i.e. Tools on your computer.)

Inspiration:  A Visual thinking and learning tool for students to plan, research and complete projects. Available for home installation.

InspireData:  A tool to investigate, analyze, and represent data and information in dynamic graphs and charts. Available for home installation.

iTunes:  iTunes is a free application for your computer (Mac or PC). It organizes and plays your digital music and video on your computer. It is also a store on your computer with free and paid content. Available for download on home computers.

MovieMaker:  Create, edit, and share movies on your computer. Build a movie with a few simple drag-and-drops.

Audacity: Audio Editor and Recorder. Available for download on home computers.

  • Record live audio.
  • Convert tapes and records into digital recordings or CDs.
  • Edit sound files.
  • Cut, copy, splice or mix sounds together.
  • Change the speed or pitch of a recording.
  • And more!

Type to Learn:  Keyboarding program providing typing instruction, practice, and assessment.

Read Write Gold:  Works within Windows applications such as Word, Excel, the Web and e-mail supporting student writing and reading with a variety of tools including Text Help voices, spelling, homophone support, a pronunciation tutor, and much more.

Google Earth:  This is a virtual globe, map and geographic information program. It maps the Earth by the superimposition of images obtained from satellite imagery, aerial photography and GIS 3D globe. Available for download on home computers.

Delicious:  Delicious is a Social Bookmarking service, which means you can save all your bookmarks online, share them with other people, and see what other people are bookmarking. Available for download on home computers.

SMART Notebook:  This software is a content delivery system with interactive, multimedia content and the tools to edit, save, and share content.  Available for download on home computers.

 

Web-based tools – Try something New!

ScrapBlog:   A tool for to create multimedia scrapbooks, cards, etc. with any easy drag-and-drop interface.  This tool can help tell digital story.

Wordle:  A tool for creating a word cloud that is a visual depiction (a weighted list in visual design) of a website or text from other sources such as a speech, poem, article, etc.

Glogster:  A digital poster-making tool that can include:  text, photos, videos, music, and more.

Doodle:  An online scheduling and coordination tool.  Doodle finds the right date and time for a group of people to meet.

ToonDoo: A comic-creating tool.  Comics can be created and printed or downloaded.

Prezi:  A presentation tool for visualizing or storytelling on a single slide, zooming into sketches on a digital page.

JogTheWeb:  A tool for building a path through websites on a topic that allows you to share, show, and comment as you trek through the web.

YouTube: A video broadcasting website where individuals can post and comment on short video clips. (You might also try:  TeacherTube, Hulu, or Vimeo)

Subscriptions

Osseo Virtual Media Center:  A variety of research and reference databases paid for by the state and the district.  It also includes websites arranged by topic. 

Atomic Learning: Online training resource that teaches you “how do I do that” through a library of thousands of short, easy-to-understand tutorial movies and “how do I apply that” training.

Learn360: A variety of video clips from resources including recent additions from A&E, National Geographic, and PBS.

Lesson Planning Resources Galore!

Thinkfinity: Resources to enhance classroom instruction with lesson plans, interactive activities and other online resources. Thinkfinity.org also provides a wealth of educational and literacy resources for students, parents and after-school programs.

4Teachers:  Tools and resources to help you integrate technology into your classroom. This site helps teachers locate online resouces such as ready-to-use Web lessons, quizzes, rubrics and classroom calendars.  There are also student tools and tools to support ELL, technology planning and at-risk or special-needs students.
