| Our school community supports School Board Policy #504: Student Dress and Appearance, which states that "Parents have the right to determine student dress providing that articles of attire are not destructive to school property, comply with requirements for health and safety, are not offensive, and do not interfere with the educational process."
"The building administration has the authority to determine whether student attire is destructive to school property, fails to comply with requirements for health and safety, is offensive, or interferes with the educational process."
At Brooklyn Junior High, the following articles of clothing have been found to negatively affect the learning and teaching climate within the classroom.
- LOWCUT/LOWRISE PANTS
- SAGGING PANTS/SHORTS
- DISPLAYING OF UNDERGARMENTS
- BARE MIDRIFFS
- SHORT SHORTS AND SHORT SKIRTS (these clothing items must be fingertip length)
- MUSCLE SHIRTS
- LOWCUT/INAPPROPRIATE NECKLINES
- HATS/HEAD GEAR/BANDANAS AND/OR GLOVES
- METAL CHAINS/RINGS ON PANTS
- METAL STUDDED BRACELETS/HATS/PANTS
- POINTED METAL/PLASTIC JEWELRY
- GRILLS
Again, we are not anti-style, nor unfashionable. However, we believe that there is social wear and school appropriate wear. Sometimes, we can't wear the same garment in each setting. Please dress appropriately for school.
